Macross: Do You Remember Love?

Overview:

The Super Dimension Fortress Macross theatrical version was released on July 21, 1984. In late 1982, along with the extended broadcast of the TV anime Super Dimension Fortress Macross, a film adaptation was discussed, and preparations were made in parallel with the production of Super Dimension Century Orgus from 1983 to 1984.
Although the TV series produced in 1982 caused quite a sensation, it is no exaggeration to say that the secret to the continued popularity of Macross is this movie. It was a huge topic of conversation even before its release, and was released in Osaka and Nagoya two weeks earlier, on July 7th.
Also, the theme song “Do You Remember Love”, sung by Mari Iijima, the voice actress of the heroine Lynn Minmay, became a huge hit, selling about 270,000 copies of the album in 1984 alone, and remains a famous song that is still talked about today.
The directors are Noboru Ishiguro and Shoji Kawamori. Noboru Ishiguro took on the role of general director who supervises the staff and did not have a major impact on the work. He took the groundbreaking step of leaving the actual direction and storyboard to Shoji Kawamori, a rookie who was only 24 years old at the time and specialized in design and had only directed a few times. This is because the 27th episode of the TV series Love Flows, directed by Kawamori, received good reviews for its incredible action scenes.
It is said that Shoji Kawamori, who lacked the skill to draw storyboards, would roughly draw a storyboard, and Noboru Ishiguro and Fumihiko Takayama would flesh it out into a detailed storyboard and give Shoji Kawamori full authority to revise it, allowing Kawamori to ultimately revise it as he pleased. They also asked Haruhiko Mikimoto for his opinion and directed some scenes.
