Sotsugyou(卒業)

Overview:

Sotsugyou (卒業) is the debut single album of Yuki Saito (斉藤由貴), released on February 21, 1985. Kazuhiro Nagaoka (長岡和弘), the director in charge of Yuki Saito, employed Takashi Matsumoto (松本隆), a famous lyricist, and Kyōhei Tsutsumi (筒美京平), a famous composer. He also employed Satoshi Takebe (武部聡志), a keyboard player and rookie arranger, for the arrangement. Kazuhiro Nagaoka let Takashi Matsumoto and Kyōhei Tsutsumi listen to Natsu no Tobira (夏の扉), SWEET MEMORIES – Seiko Matsuda (松田聖子), Tokiwo Kakeru Shojo (時をかける少女) – Tomoyo Harada (原田知世), Matsu wa (待つわ) – Aming, Akujo (悪女) – Miyuki Nakajima (中島 みゆき) that Yuki Saito sang at the audition.
After hearing Yuki Saito’s song, the two agreed that Aming’s Matsu wa touched their hearts, and agreed to create a song that properly conveyed the lyrics like Matsu wa.
Thus, Sotsugyou was produced in the form of Takashi Matsumoto writing the lyrics first, and Kyōhei Tsutsumi adding the melody to it. The title “Sotsugyou” had already been decided, and Takashi Matsumoto completed the song after discussing with the staff about the scenery and landscape of the school the main character attends.
